Research topics (related to the Institute)

  1. Evolutionary analysis of specificity changes in nucleobase and nucleoside transporters.
  2. Functional role of membrane transporters in symbiotic nitrogen fixation.
  3. Analysis of transporters contributing to chemoresistance in the tumor-associated bacterial microbiome.

Research summary

  • Dr. Frillingos’ research interests include the analysis of structure-function-evolution and specificity relationships of ion-gradient driven membrane transporters (secondary active transporters) (Solute Carriers, SLCs). Current emphasis of Frillingos research team is on nucleoside/nucleobase-cation symporters.
