Research topics (related to the Institute)

  1. Cellular and molecular basis of pain sensation.
  2. GABA receptors.
  3. Transient Receptor Potential Ankyrin 1 channels.
  4. Cellular and synaptic mechanisms in disorders of the nervous system.

Research summary

  • Dr. Labrakakis’ research interests are focused on identifying cellular, molecular and network mechanisms in the nervous system in health and disease, using state of the art techniques like patch clamp, opto-/chemo-genetics and imaging. Current research emphasis is on the cellular and molecular basis of the development and maintenance of chronic and neuropathic pain.
