Research topics (related to the Institute)

  1. Study of epigenetic regulation of breast cancer stem cells.
  2. Epigenetic tumor heterogeneity as a contributing factor of chemoresistance in breast cancer.
  3. Evaluation of bioactive natural compounds in breast cancer.

Research summary

  • Dr. Magklara’s research interests focus on the study of breast tumor epigenetic heterogeneity as a mechanism of chemoresistance. Currently, the team efforts focus on the development of in vitro models (e.g. chemoresistant cell lines and 3D spheroids enriched in cancer stem cells) with the main goal being the identification of novel therapeutic epigenetic targets to overcome drug-resistance.
