Research topics (related to the Institute)

1. Monitoring and environmental quality

2. Environmental technologies

Research summary

  • Development and application of state of the art analytical extraction methodologies (LLE, SPE, SPME, MSPD) for the determination of toxic micropollutants (pesticides, endocrine disruption compounds, pharmaceuticals e.t.c.) in environmental substrates (aquatic and terrestrial systems), agricultural products (food commodities) and biological samples (blood, urine e.t.c.).
  • Analytical methods validation and measurement uncertainty estimation. Chemometric methods application (Artificial neural networks, experimental designs, ANOVA)– Data statistical treatment.
  • Chemical separations and analytical chromatography (gas chromatography, high performance liquid chromatography). Spectroscopy methods of chemical characterization (chemical structure and molecular spectroscopy: molecular absorption spectrometry UV/Vis, spectrometry of molecular mass).
  • Physicochemical behaviour and fate of organic pollutants in the environment (kinetics, degradation mechanisms) – Toxicity tests-Risk assessment.
  • Development of effective degradation and purification processes for the mineralization of organic micropollutants (adsorption, oxidation processes, homogenous and heterogeneous photocatalysis).
