Design and synthesis of small molecules in order to identify new chemical entities with biological properties. Design of drug conjugates for the targeted delivery of anticancer agents to cancer cells and tumor cells. Synthesis of organic monomers for the preparation of novel materials.

Research summary

Dr. Fokas’ research interests lie in the field of organic medicinal chemistry and early drug discovery aiming in:
(i) The design and synthesis of small molecules with the appropriate physicochemical properties for the discovery of bioactive compounds that modulate the function of target proteins (Lead Generation, Lead Optimization, Structure-Activity Relationship Studies).
(ii) The development of new strategies for the design of new chemotherapeutic drug conjugates of anticancer agents with multiple modalities for the targeted delivery to cancer cells and tumors
