Department of Chemistry
Biomaterials, Nanomaterials as cancer therapeutics, diagnostics and theranostics.
Prof. Tzakos’ research interests include:
Development of tumor homing and tumor responsive Drug Delivery Vehicles for theranostics
Drug Formulations and prodrugs: supramolecular (cyclodextrins, calixarenes), nanoparticles, peptide based hydrogels
Development of imaging agents to visualize and chart cellular compartments (Endoplasmic Reticulum, Golgi, Mitochondria, Lysosomes) as also signaling events and molecules (cellular enzymes, intracellular reactive oxygen species, intracellular pH, intracellular temperature, etc.)
Pharmacokinetics (LC-MS, HPLC based) and bioactivity evaluation
Design and development of cancer diagnostics and theranostics: Development of tumor homing probes equipped with multimodal imaging agents (for MRI, in vivo Near Infrared I & II optical imaging, SPECT/PET probes).
